Class Description: Ready to expand your me-made wardrobe with a versatile top you’ll reach for again and again? In this beginner-friendly garment sewing class, you’ll make the beloved Boxy Top Foundation Pattern from Thread + Sprout. Led by experienced sewist and instructor Catherine Lanyon, this class is perfect for first-time garment makers and sewists looking to strengthen their foundational skills.
Over two fun and supportive sessions, you’ll learn how to take accurate measurements, trace and customize your pattern size (the inclusive Foundation Pattern includes sizes XXS–5X, fitting busts/chests approximately 31–66”), cut fabric with confidence, and assemble your top using a standard sewing machine with tidy overlock seam finishes. We’ll also cover simple techniques for working with bias binding so you can achieve a polished, professional look.
Everything you need for this class will be included. You may chose from navy, ivory, mustard, or mango Essex linen during your checkout. You will receive digital files from Thread + Sprout as well as printed copies of the direction booklet and pattern sheets. And because the Foundation pattern can easily transform into dresses, layered designs, patchwork makes, block-printed art pieces, and embroidered or appliquéd garments, it’s a true staple you can reinvent endlessly.
This class will run with 3+ participants.
PLEASE NOTE: While no garment experience is required, if you have never used a sewing machine before and are feeling nervous or stressed about using one for the first time, please consider taking our Sewing Machine Confidence Builder prior to this class, or get in touch for a private one-on-one lesson.
