Class Description: Improvisational quilting can feel like a lot of open water… exciting in theory, but hard to know where to start. This workshop gives you a way in.

In this two-part workshop, you'll learn eight distinct pieced line techniques rooted in improvisational quilting. Each one its own creative prompt, and each one a jumping-off point for wherever your instincts want to take you. The techniques provide the structure; what you do with them is entirely yours. No patterns, no templates, no rules about what a line should look like or where it should go. Just a clear starting point, and the space to see where it leads.

Taught by award-winning modern quilter Diane Wespiser, each session covers four techniques at a relaxed pace of roughly one per hour, with prompts and methods for further exploration provided along the way.

We strongly encourage signing up for both sessions — together they give you a much fuller toolkit and a richer sense of what's possible. That said, each session stands on its own, and this is your journey. If you're only after one particular set of techniques, you're welcome to join us for just that day.

PLEASE NOTE: While no quilting experience is necessary, if you have never used a sewing machine before and are feeling nervous or stressed about using one, please consider taking our Sewing Machine Confidence Builder prior to this class, or get in touch for a private one-on-one lesson.

Class Registration

All Hoop & Bee classes require registration to ensure enough seats and equipment for everyone. If you have any questions or difficulty scheduling, please reach out and we’ll be happy to help during our regular daytime staffed hours, Tuesday - Friday from 10am-4pm.

This class will run with 3+ participants. If there are not enough participants, you will be contacted to shift your seat to another time/date this class is being offered.

NOTE: if you do not see any classes on the schedule, it means either all classes are currently full, or are not being offered at this time. If you would like to register for a waiting list OR request a class to be offered in the future, please contact us.

Before your first class, please review our Class Policies. All participants should be 16+ unless approved by the instructor. Remember to only bring closed-top beverages to class! We are located on the second floor of Eastworks in Suite 209. We look forward to making with you!
