Class Description:   Want to sew your own clothes but not sure where to start? Inspired by all the “Me Made May” posts? Join this beginner-friendly workshop and create a complete outfit in just one week! Make comfortable-fit shorts and a breezy tank top — just in time for summer!

In this garment construction-focused class, Malinda will teach you how to sew two warm-weather wardrobe staples using approachable patterns from Helen’s Closet: the Reynolds Top and the June Shorts. These stylish basics are perfect for layering, lounging, or dressing up — and a great way to kick off your handmade capsule wardrobe.

You’ll leave the class with two finished garments, two printed reusable patterns (plus digital files), and the confidence to keep sewing. The included patterns offer multiple versions, so you can continue mixing and matching at home—there’s even a dress version of the tank top and a pants option for the shorts!

This three-session class series is designed to be fun, supportive, and empowering — perfect for confident beginners, returning sewists, or any maker ready to turn their making skills into wearable clothes. In this week long course, you’ll learn:

  • How to read and interpret garment patterns

  • Pattern layout and cutting techniques

  • Applying facings and darts

  • Inserting elastic waistbands

  • Making simple pattern modifications for length

  • Basic tips on fit and fabric choice

Please note: This class focuses on garment construction. While we will cover the basics around fit and sizing, in-depth pattern alterations will not be covered in this class.

This class will run with 3+ participants.

PLEASE NOTE: While no experience is necessary, if you have never used a sewing machine before and are feeling nervous or stressed about using one for the first time, please consider taking our Sewing Machine Confidence Builder prior to this class, or get in touch for a private one-on-one lesson.
