Inset Circles and Shape Play
Class Length: 3.5 hours
Class Cost: $68
Are Materials Included? No, a supply list will be provided after registration and again before the first session.
Class Description: In this playful and meditative workshop, you’ll gain a solid foundation in sewing inset circles and curved shapes using the elegant “6-Minute Circle” method by Dale Fleming. Once you’ve mastered the technique, you’ll explore improvisational variations such as layering colors, playing with placement, and designing blocks that reflect your mood, your surroundings, or simply the joy of shape and fabric.
Taught by award-winning modern quilter Diane Wespiser, this class is inspired by the Zen practice of drawing an ensō (a hand-painted circle created as a daily act of reflection) that blends skill-building with mindfulness. Diane incorporates this method into her own creative routine, sewing one circle a day as a grounding practice. You’ll leave class with a set of vibrant, expressive blocks and the tools to begin your own daily or seasonal stitching ritual, or the skills to bring your creative vision to life.
Bring your scraps, your curiosity, your playfulness, and a sense of presence - the circle will take it from there.
This class will run with 3+ participants.
Students should know how to operate and sew fabric using a sewing machine, but no prior experience with circles is required.
PLEASE NOTE: This class is for confident beginners and up. If you have never used a sewing machine before or are feeling stressed or nervous about using one, please consider taking our Sewing Machine Confidence Builder or Beginning Quilting prior to this class or get in touch for a private one-on-one lesson.
