Seamed-Scrap Minis Workshop

Class Length: 4.5 hours

Class Cost: $68

Are Materials Included? Some scraps are provided, but we encourage bringing your own preferred materials for producing an actual piece. For this workshop, we highly encourage scraps with seams. Additionally, bulk fabrics are always available for purchase in-studio.

Class Description:  If you’ve ever struggled to use up your beloved fabric scraps (particularly those that already have a seam), felt unsure how to design improvisationally, or wanted a low-pressure project that still builds design skills, this workshop is for you!

Taught by award-winning quilter and educator Lee Sproull, in this Seamed-Scrap Minis Workshop, you’ll work with scrap fabric — especially pieces that already contain seams — to create small, improvisational mini quilts. Those trimmed-off sections from quilt blocks and tops often include unexpected seam lines that, when used intentionally, can create the illusion of intricate, tiny piecing with far less effort than it appears.

We’ll begin by looking at sample seamed-scrap minis and discussing approaches to composition and layout. You’ll see demonstrations of how to cut usable components from larger scraps and how to combine them into cohesive designs. Most of the workshop will be hands-on: cutting, arranging, refining, and sewing your pieces into one or more mini quilt tops.

By the end of class, you’ll be well on your way to completing a mini quilt top (approximately 10” x 10” or 12” x 12”) and will leave with practical strategies for turning scrap piles into thoughtful, visually dynamic work.

This class will only run with 5+ participants.

PLEASE NOTE: This class is for confident beginners and up. If you have never used a sewing machine before or are feeling stressed or nervous about using one, please consider taking our Sewing Machine Confidence Builder or Beginning Quilting prior to this class or get in touch for a private one-on-one lesson.
